Radio One of Raleigh presents Women’s Empowerment 2010. A high energy, high profile event that targets African-American women of all ages.

Women’s Empowerment has empowered, educated and entertained women for the past 15 years. This extravagant event has become a tradition for women of the Triangle. For an entire day women are dazzled with unforgettable performances by national recording artists, impressive vendor displays, informative seminars, a spectacular fashion show, and celebrity autograph sessions. This year’s event will feature a Vendor Pavilion that boasts over nearly 100 vendors, a Literary Lounge featuring national authors, a Wedding Pavilion and a Men’s Lounge.

The program will feature a noteworthy motivational speech by a nationally recognized speaker. This year’s keynote speaker will be athlete, author and champion of health & fitness, Laila Ali. Past speakers have included Susan Taylor, editor in chief of Essence magazine, entertainment diva Patti LaBelle, R&B songstress Mary J. Blige, actress and director Debbie Allen, actress Phylicia Rashad, motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant, award winning actors and producers Angela Bassett and Vivica A. Fox, television personality Star Jones-Reynolds and Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts.

Created in March 1994, in honor of Women’s History Month, Women’s Empowerment was designed to enhance the lives of African-American women by addressing issues that specifically impact their health, relationship and overall lifestyle.

The 2010 Women’s Empowerment Expo keynote speaker Laila Ali, an athlete and champion of health and fitness, is a perfect role model for today’s healthy, on-the-go woman. The youngest daughter of Veronica Porsche Anderson, and of the legendary Muhammad Ali, she is a strong, intelligent, woman, daughter, and wife. Equally as important, Laila possesses a unique blend of personality and celebrity status, yet retains an innate sense of being “every woman”, thus allowing her to connect strongly with the consumer.

Laila, a multi-talented entrepreneur, owned and operated a nail salon in California before entering the boxing profession. She had earned her degree in Business Management at Santa Monica College, but after watching women’s boxing on television for the first time, she instantly wanted to step in the ring. About a year later, she sold her business and started training to become a professional boxer.

Laila also authored a motivational book titled Reach! She wrote the book in an effort to help young women who may need to be inspired in life. Laila uses her own experiences and challenges as an example for her readers.
